01:20 pm - The joys of parenting - collateral damages

Previous Entry Share Next Entry

Just a short time ago, I experienced the worst proximal collateral damage of any diaper change. There were no distal collateral damages (thank $deity -- there were once), but 2 extra diapers, 1 spit-up cloth, 1 large muslin wrap, 1 small pad, 1 co-sleeper sheet and 1 bassinet liner pad fell that day--ur, that minute--to heterogeneous fluids. Now, I am doing laundry (well, waiting for it to progress) while I mind her royal highness.

...undoubtedly this marks the first of many bodily-fluids-of-child related posts to come. ;)

I admit I cannot figure out what proximal and distal mean in this conext, and cannot quell my curiosity about said meaning.

Help a poor biologist out -- I only know the anatomical definitions of these words, which denote relative, not absolute position. ;) What's the reference point, the baby? The walls and carpet would be.. Well, frankly in two different directions. Walls I'd buy as distal. Floor's really more dorsal.

I gotta say, the damage sounds a lot more impressive when I know that the walls and floors were involved. Otherwise, it just sounds like she got her crib (which is expected) and possibly you (which is both expected and funny).

Well, in this case no walls or floors were hit (proximal), but in a previous episode, the floor was hit.

Jon was sitting up in bed - while I dosed - winding Amelia and she threw up... in *my* ear!

Not so bad as for you but it isn't the best way to wake up. Jon of course thought that it was freakin' hilarious

I think I prefer cleaning up the mess I had to deal with to that. :) You win!
