While I think of it...

I have a 27" Philips TV (CRT). It is not a flat screen (y'know; it's the usual mildly curved type of screen). I think it's essential Trinitron-type tech. It's 4 and a bit years old. It shows pictures and puts out sound just fine.

It does, however, have a problem (one which I have not attempted to fix, so maybe it's fixable, but I wouldn't hold out too much hope): It has stopped responding to remote control signals entirely.

That is, you can control it using the buttons on the front (Power, Channel up, Channel down, Volume up, Volume down -- importantly, channel up/down do let you access the A/V inputs as well as regular channels [i.e. it cycles, roughly: ... N-1, N, video 1, video 2, video 3, 1, 2, 3, ...], so you can access all of them), but it responds not at all to its own remote control unit or to my TiVo remote control unit or, presumably, anything else.

If you are in need of or would like a perfectly serviceable display which would be ok especially if you use a receiver for audio and video (i.e. the receiver switches inputs and controls the volume and stuff) or if you don't want to do anything complicated and you don't mind using the buttons on the front ... then this could be yours!

Let me know if you would like it. Pick up from San Jose, CA.

Ooh! My TV appears to be in its death throes this week... If no one's claimed your old one yet, I'd be happy to have it as a replacement. I don't care about a remote (this one's not had a working remote in the 5+ years I've had it); I just need something that'll function enough to watch movies.

Probably not Friday (tomorrow--ur, today), but at some point over the weekend would be ok or, if not, on Wednesday during the daytime would probably be ok as I'm intending to work from home. We should take this "off-line" to phone or e-mail (the latter, of course, is on-line, but you know what I meant).
