well, honestly. No one else thought the whole thing was kind of funny. And kind of overblown? At all? Not funny in a cheap shot David Letterman kind of way. Just funny the way it was such a huge deal to everyone. I would apologize to my friend too.
As a matter of fact...Helo? Starbuck? I am sorry that you guys shot me, and that you feel so bad. Next time, aim at other folk.

Having been involved in a hunting accident where I shot two lawyers because they didn't follow any of the rules (no license, no permit, no regulation blaze orange), they apologized to me as well.

Just as Cheney is supposed to know better and not pull the trigger unless he is positive of his backstop, Whittington is supposed to know better and not walk into the field of fire. I'm sure that if Whittington had shot Cheney (must not think about that too much), Cheney would be apologizing as well.

If I understand the situation correctly, Cheney was the one (1) not permitted, (2) under the influence of alcohol. The idea of going out with a gun and drinking is ... fucking insane, IMHO. I think it's ludicrous that he's being apologised to. It seems to me he ought to be being brought up on charges.

Cheney was the one who forgot to pay for his stamp -- not the same thing as not having taken the test. He also had had a beer a number of hours before, and while it's not the *smartest* thing to do, it certainly wouldn't have impaired him to the point that he chose to pull the trigger because of the drinking.

It was an accident. The man and his boss have done many other actionable things. This is just noise.

Indubitably very different. Thousands of miles, an ocean, a different continent, a very different country.
