Argh! STUPID FRAKKING BLITHERING IDIOTS!

... and, of course, the resolution for the problem is, "you should contact your DHCP server vendor to find out how to set up your server to behave stupidly in order to work around our moronic, anti-social, fragile, non-protocol-compliant behaviour which we won't fix because we don't want to" (probably because it's to work around an idiotic bug in their crappy bundled DHCP server).

HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE

P.S. I haven't had time to read LJ in a month or more. :( *sigh*

I'm sorry, I shouldn't laugh, but I can't help it.

I'm amused, your employer isn't even on the vendors list linked from that page.

Well, neither is my employer's product either. However, I know how ours handles duplicate requests, and that it does so in a more intelligent way :)

Our product very sanely and intelligently deals with duplicate requests. It doesn't do the MORONIC thing Microsoft clients apparently require.

Idiots indeed... that's right up there with:
- Shutting down an UDP socket if it sends a packet and results in an ICMP port unreachable message (especially if connect() hasn't been called on it, that should not happen)

- SO_REUSEADDR allowing more than one process to bind to a port at the same time (no no no no NO!)

- An easy to make Javascript error causing the same HTML form to potentially be submitted twice (once by the script, once by the default handler that isn't blocked)... Firefox is smart enough to block that kind of thing
