Our iPods are older than yours, but maybe I can contribute.

Hubby has an iSkin evo2, I assume that it's just the previous version of the evo3. I gave it to him shortly after he received his iPod, so he didn't contribute to the purchasing decision. It's black (which he likes... I gave him an iBook to replace his Wall Street G3 Powerbook and all he can say is "it's not black"!) It's grippy, which is nice, but I don't think it would withstand me or my habit of throwing mine in my bag or on the floor or whatnot.

I have a hard case, I guess the closest thing to it is the Agent 18 shield (although that is not it). It's clear on the front and the back, and the bits around the side are rubbery (good for gripping). I received it from hubby shortly after I received my iPod, so I had no say when it came to the purchasing decision. It's clear and very easy to see everything, the click wheel is unhindered, and there's no little flap to move when I want to plug it in. But I especially like it because I am a klutz and I drop things (i.e. holding it while I am running and letting go by accident, sending it flying across the room) or I hand things over to klutzy people who drop things (i.e. dropping my iPod on a rock while we were camping). Speaking of camping, I have a suitably klutz-proof little radio called the PAL from Tivoli audio which goes very well with my iPod and has also taken some abuse.

Hubby does not abuse things the way I do so I cannot attest to the durability of the iSkin.

Wow, thanks for the extensive information, delphinus! :) It's definitely helpful to have all this stuff to take into consideration.
