Gosh. This is pretty cool. I'm not sure who's responsible for it, but ... the opening of The Simpsons, live-action (yes, with real people).

Current Mood: amusedamused
Current Music: The Simpsons opening credits theme

Someone in Europe or Australia... Notice they're driving on the wrong side.

But yeah, some time went into getting all of the stunts right, etc...

In fact, most of Europe drives on the right. It's only Ireland and Britain where one drives on the left.

Outside of Europe, however, it's far from only Australia. :) Large portions of the Asia-Pacific region (including India, which is pretty huge) and a large chunk of Africa drive on the left. In fact, even a country or two in South America drive on the left.

There's a wealth of information about all this on: http://www.brianlucas.ca/roadside/ :) (REALLY cool site, that!)

It turns out that if you look at the population distribution between countries that drive on the left and countries that drive on the right, it's about 2:4 (2bn left; 4bn right).

That said, the people in the live-action Simpsons thing did look more European (or Australian, or New Zealander, or...). =)

On the other hand, urox pointed out that the "father" is actually driving a left-hand-drive car (that is, a car designed for driving on the right-hand side of the road), which is a bit weird. He swerves out of the power plant parking lot onto the left side of the road, but he was swerving wildly, and we don't see what side of the road he drives on once he stops swerving.

Conversely, the "mother" is driving a right-hand-drive (for driving on the left-hand side of the road) car. Amusingly, we see her driving down a country road which doesn't really have sides, so we don't see what side of the road she would have been driving on either!

That is to say... really, it could have been filmed in a country where they drive on either side of the road!

Actually, the fact that there is a LHD car and a RHD car lends more credance to it being shot in Europe somewhere, since it seems to me it's more common to have a car of the wrong kind in Europe, given that there's far fewer barriers to travel by car (via ferries and hovercraft and the "chunnel") and shipping of cars (you can just drive it over and fly back) than most other parts of the world.

Also, well, the landscape and buildings look kind of British.
